What is NLP?
What is NLP?
NLP is short for Neuro Linguistic Programming. In a nutshell - What you think (or say to yourself) affects how you feel and how you feel affects how you behave and what you will (or won't) do.
NLP is a set of strategies or insights that you can use with your mind, your emotions and your body to run your life more successfully with others in an extra-ordinary way! A key element of NLP is that we form our unique internal mental maps of the world as a product of the way we filter and perceive information absorbed through our five senses from the world around us. We each have our own perception of the world, however none is right or worng each is just different.
For example if I look at the world with my red glasses on then my world is red. If you look at the world with blue glasses on then your world will be blue. Niether is the truth, it's just our version. Likewise for any one situation there will be a whole array of differnet interpreations or "Meanings" that people will give it. NLP helps us to understand that in ourselves and others. It opens up the possibility of Choice and Change by questioning our beliefs and self talk and where strategies no longer serve us or hold us back NLP allows us the chance to create new meanings and beliefs that will propell us to where we really want to be.
NLP in Coaching
Many people study NLP to help them become more effective in their chosen career or in their personal lives. The strategies can be employed across a wide area of applications ranging from fields as diverse as education, team building, sales, marketing, personal development, leadership and coaching. Wherever there is human interaction and growth potential, NLP can be used to develop and enhance performance of self and others. As such it is a wonderful coaching tool and one that we use frequently in both our coaching and training rpograms at Momentum People.
