Catheter Awareness Training

The Catheter Awareness course is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to confidently and effectively care for a child who requires a urinary catheter.

This comprehensive course delves into the various aspects of paediatric urinary catheter care, including proper maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical hands-on training, participants will develop the competence and confidence needed to provide optimal care for children with urinary catheters.

Course content

By the end of this course, participants will:

  • Understand the principles and importance of urinary catheter care in children.
  • Recognise the different types of urinary catheters used in paediatric care and their indications.
  • Comprehend the anatomy and physiology of the paediatric urinary system relevant to catheterisation.
  • Develop proficiency in the proper techniques for inserting and removing urinary catheters in children.
  • Learn best practices for maintaining urinary catheter hygiene and preventing infections.
  • Gain insights into the monitoring and assessment of urinary catheter function and urine output in children.
  • Acquire knowledge of common complications associated with urinary catheter use and strategies for their prevention and management.

Course duration

Catheter Awareness Only can be conducted online via Teams or Zoom for a 1-hour session.

Catheter Awareness with competency assessments undertaken on a mannequin must be conducted face-to-face. Please allow 4 hours for this training.

Course outcome

Participant’s will have a good understanding of the course content and how to care for a child with a urinary catheter. To include risks and complications.

Practical elements of the course successfully completed on a mannequin.

Participant’s will acquire a comprehensive grasp of the principles and practices involved in proficient documentation.

Ways to study

Catheter Awareness Training is available as an online (via Zoom or Teams) course for theory only.

In-house Face-to-Face training is available for theory and competencies.

Catheter Awareness Training fees

Catheter Awareness Training is £195 + VAT for a 1-hour online session.

Catheter Awareness with Competency Training is £295 + VAT and travel where applicable for a 2-hour session for a maximum of 12 participants
