Things at Momentum People have developed so much in the last 12 months with the launch of more than 15 courses.

Last year we welcomed paramedic Emma Willson to the team and she has developed some top-quality first-aid training that is hands-on and interactive – as you would expect from any of our training.

The training can be delivered to teams at our training facility in Stoke-on-Trent or we can run an in-house course at your premises for up to 12 people at a time. We also have open courses that individuals or small groups can book on to.

Our first aid training includes:

Emergency First-Aid at Work – is informed by the HSE guidance and provides hands on, interactive training to comply with the Health and Safety (First aid) regulations.

First-Aid at Work – for first-aid on adults and children who have reached puberty.
Paediatric First-Aid – for first-aid on children who have not yet reached puberty.

What is the first aid at work training course?

First Aid at Work is a three-day training course that covers a range of topics as set out by the HSE:

  • Understand the role of the First Aider, including reference to:
    • The importance of preventing cross-infection
    • The need for recording incidents and actions and the use of available equipment
    • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizures)
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automated external defibrillator
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)
  • Administering first aid to a casualty with
    • Injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
    • Chest injuries
    • Burns and scalds
    • Eye injuries
    • Sudden poisoning
    • Anaphylactic shock
  • Recognising the presence of major illness (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes) and provide appropriate first aid

During the course, Emma assesses your skills through various practical tasks, quizzes, group activities, card sorts and games. It is a supportive environment full of like-minded people.

There is a legal requirement that businesses look after their staff, and that includes the provision of first aid.

This course is great if you have:

  • staff;
  • have a higher risk of injury (due to workplace location, activities undertaken) or
  • if you just wish to know your staff are trained to a high standard and able to cope with whatever first aid emergency comes there way.

It is also great for those who want comprehensive knowledge to manage whatever is necessary in their everyday life. It goes into enough depth that your staff will be confident and competent in their role as first aider. First aid trainer Emma uses her knowledge and experience as a Paramedic to bring training to life with real-life examples and stories.

Our First Aid courses can be run at our offices, in Stoke-on-Trent or at your venue. If there is only one or two, you can also attend one of our open courses which are held in Stoke and Wiltshire on a monthly basis.

How does Emergency First-Aid at Work differ?

Emergency First Aid at Work covers the first aid topics set out by the HSE. This shorter course is more suitable for those who work in small teams, often in a low-risk environment. This is also great, if you want to test the waters in the world of First Aid.

The one-day Emergency First Aid covers:

If after completing the Emergency First Aid at Work course and you want to know more, your certificate can be topped up to the full First Aid at Work course with us if booked within a short timeframe after completion.

Like our First Aid at work course, it can be run at our offices or at your venue, and if there is only one or two, you can also attend one of our open courses which are held in Stoke and Wiltshire on a monthly basis.
