Our nasogastric (NG) feeding course is designed for healthcare professionals who are involved in the care of patients requiring nutritional support. The course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively manage NG feeding, administer medication, understand the maintenance of NG tubes, monitoring and troubleshooting complications.
This course does not train a participant how to inset an nasogastric tube.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the indications and contraindications for nasogastric feeding.
- Administer and manage enteral nutrition and medication through nasogastric tubes
- Implement best practices for the care and maintenance of nasogastric tubes.
- Identify potential complications of nasogastric feeding and appropriate interventions.
- Identify emergencies with a nasogastric tube and take appropriate actions

Methodology
The course utilises a blend of instructional methods, including a theoretical lecture, videos, interactive discussions and hands-on practice on a mannequin
Participants will engage in both theoretical learning and practical skill-building exercises to ensure a well-rounded understanding of nasogastric feeding.

Assessment and Certification
Participants will be assessed through a combination of a written assessment, practical demonstrations, participation in class activities and a practical assessment on a child/young person.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certification in nasogastric feeding
Participants attending the course without doing the assessment on a child will receive a Nasogastric Feeding Awareness only certificate.

Course duration
The Nasogastric Feeding Course is one day, consisting of eight hours of theory and practice on a mannequin, followed by a subsequent practical assessment on a young person within the participants’ area of work.

The course is accessible as tailored training for organisations which require specific content or have a large team that needs to attend.
This is delivered as a face-to-face session.
